Windows Home Server Power Pack 1: finally backup your server

stplanken | July 30, 2008 - 16:59 | 3 years ago

One of the most important new features of Power Pack 1 is the ability to back up the shared folders of the SmartServer to an external drive. Although easy to set up, it requires a few steps in preparation.

In the post Windows Home Server Power Pack 1 In Depth: External Backup you can read step by step instructions on how to set this up.

One thing in the article that was unclear to me, is that you must allow your external drive to be formatted, or the drive cannot be used to back up your SmartServer. In other words, formatting is not optional. It performs a quick format, as the format of my 1 TB My Book completed in seconds.
