Serbia may consider partitioning Kosovo

Balkanblog | September 30, 2008 - 19:52 | 3 years ago

Serbian president Boris Tadic said he is willing to consider the option of partitioning Kosovo, wlthough he would favor a solution with "substantial" autonomy for Kosovo. He added that "anything is preferable to a situation where one side lost everything and the other won it all."

Despite the fact that Kosovo declared independence in February and has been recognized by 47 countries, Serbia still regards it as a renegade province belonging to Serbia. Serbia has been lobbying for UN support for an opinion from the International Court of Justice on the legality of Kosovo's independence, although this opinion will not be binding in any way.
