EU made no decision on fact-finding mission to Serbia

Balkanblog | February 24, 2009 - 18:59 | 3 years ago

EU minsters did not reach a decision whether to send a delegation to Serbia to assess the country's cooperation with the ICTY. Czech foreign minster Karel Schwarzenberg said "we have to keep in mind that the final decision about full co-operation between Serbia and The Hague court will be made by Brammertz."

Italian foreign minister Franco Frattini was quoted as saying that it was unjust for one EU member to block the Stabilization and Association Agreement with Serbia, referring to the Netherlands.

The Netherlands correctly demands full cooperation with the war crimes tribunal and has long urged Serbia to arrest and hand over Ratko Mladic.

EU foreign ministers also failed to agree to give the green light for the bloc's Executive Commission to start assessing Montenegro's membership application.
