Former UN commander testified in Karadzic trial

Balkanblog | October 7, 2010 - 13:01 | 1 year ago

Former British commander of UN peacekeeping forces in Bosnia General Michael Rose testified at Karadzic's trial. Rose said that during 1994 Karadzic directed Serb troops to terrorize civilians. He said that Karadzic systematically reduced the Muslim enclaves Srebrenica and Zepa to near starvation and that he controlled the snipers who unleashed a hail of deadly fire on Sarajevo.

Karadzic claims atrocities such as sniping and shelling that killed thousands of trapped civilians in Sarajevo were carried out by forces beyond his control. He suggested Muslims killed their own in order to demonize Serbs.
